Key findings
- 54 of the 294 Auckland trade businesses checked (18%) publish at least one price for their service on their own website.
- Healthy homes assessment is the most open: 12 of 22 businesses (55%) publish a price. Roof painting is the least: 2 of 54 (4%).
- Of 115 published figures, 49 are shown excluding GST, 31 including GST and 35 do not say. Comparing two published prices often means checking the GST basis first.
- 9 of the 115 figures are advertised as specials or deals.

Why it matters
Most Auckland trade businesses quote each job, often for good reasons: a roof, a subfloor or a commercial site varies a lot. But a starting price, a price per storey or an hourly rate lets a homeowner judge whether a quote is in range before anyone visits. This guide gives ranking points to businesses that publish prices for the service they are listed for.
Method and limits
Each business's website was read on 6 October and 10 October 2026: the home page, linked pricing and service pages, and where needed the live site. A price counts if the business publishes it for its own work: a fixed price, a starting price, a range, an hourly rate or a rate per square metre. Market-wide "typical cost" articles, finance offers and product prices do not count. Directories, marketplaces and lead-generation sites were excluded.
Limits: prices that only appear inside an online quote form, behind a script, or on pages not linked from the site may have been missed, so the share publishing prices is a floor rather than an exact figure. Business counts per trade are approximate where a business offers several trades.
